3 Ways to Get the Best Self Massage

The benefits that a therapeutic massage treatment has on the body are numerous: better circulation, improved posture, lower blood pressure, deeper and easier breathing, and a stronger immune system, to name a few.

Not everyone has the budget to get a professional massage on a regular basis. Luckily, there are ways to get most of the benefits of a spa massage treatment without even leaving the house.

Here are four self massage tips to show your body a little love and lead to a healthier you...

Relieve Neck Tension

Start by tilting your head back and, using your palms and finger tips, squeeze the flesh at the base of your neck (on both sides). Slowly, bring your chin down toward your chest and hold for 10 seconds before returning to an upright position.

Repeat this stretch a few times to promote relaxation in your neck. It's a quick and easy way to relieve neck tension at any time of the day.

Treat your Feet
It’s important to show your feet some love after standing and walking all day, especially if you regularly wear high heels. A foot massage can relieve sore feet and have you feeling pampered and primed. Grab a calming foot lotion and, using your thumbs, massage the muscles at the center of each foot. Apply extra pressure to areas that are sore.

Don’t forget the toes! Rotate each one in a circle, clockwise and counter-clockwise. You might even want to try this in a soothing Epsom salt bath for extra relaxation.

Soothe your Scalp

Scalp massages are great for relieving tension headaches, which are common if you’re working on a computer for most of the day.

Place your fingertips at your temples, supporting your jaw line with your thumbs. Rub your temples in a circular motion for 1 minute.

Then, push your scalp up toward the ceiling, hold for 5 seconds and release. Repeat this motion across your entire scalp to feel refreshed and relaxed.
